Volunteering with SUS
Most volunteer opportunities at SUS are for recurring weekly shifts as either a tutor or a squash coach. Our minimum commitment for these types of positions is one session per week for one month (only four sessions!) This way volunteers will develop a stronger bond with students and gain a better understanding of how the program runs. For information about breaks and off-days, please visit the SUS calendar.
Don’t know how to play squash? That’s OK, you don’t need to know anything about squash in order to volunteer!
Academic Tutor: School comes before squash. Students will spend half of each practice receiving help on their schoolwork. Academic tutors will work with a maximum of 4 students in a group or individually to help them complete their homework and extracurricular activities. Experience teaching kids is helpful but not required.
Squash Coach: While one group studies, the other group will practice squash. Squash coaches will work with a maximum of 5 kids on court. These kids are starting from ground zero so it is important that squash coaches maintain a fun and productive atmosphere. Coaches must be competent squash players and able to efficiently run drills.
